Who Am I When Everything is Uncertain?
How many of you can attest, that some time throughout your life you have said, “I wish God can just show me what my future holds”?
There are some times and seasons in our life when we are faced with changes and totally confused and worry that things may just go wrong.
Yet, the Bible says and promises us that we can find peaceful rest in trusting God.
Recently I have struggled because there was a lot of uncertainty in my life. Getting ready to graduate from college, not applying to grad school because I did not know what was going to happen next. Was I going to stay in Baltimore or move back home to the British Virgin Islands? Am I going to get a job, what is going to happen…So many questions, so little time, no results or answers.
You see, I am that person that always wants to know what if or what is going to happen. I need to know everything before doing it. I would not say that I have always been like this but as I have gotten older, I wonder, where is my life going.
I found myself looking at others and saying when would this happen for me or when will that take place in my life. Worrying about my age and not accomplishing things I would think needed to be done within a certain time frame.
But I quickly had to ask God to help and forgive me because I realize I was doing myself more harm than good. So during some alone time in prayer, I realized how trusting God is a fundamental part of my faith which strengthens me during my time of uncertainty.
For trusting God can bring us comfort, security, safety and rest. For I have learned, that trusting God wholeheartedly comes from knowing Him for yourself and spending time with Him, through His word and prayer. Also, trusting God wholeheartedly also comes from understanding our future and hope in Him. One of my favorite scriptures that I grew to love is that of Jeremiah 29:11; “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) What such reassurance and amazing promise to know God has a plan for me where my future and hope has already been secured.
So I encourage someone today, though at times life may feel like a roller coaster, and we may experience sudden turns of thrill and unexpected drops, know that God is always there with us, and we can know peace during the uncertainty of life with trusting Him.
