Maverick Monday: Terron T. Quailes

January 25, 2016

Minister Terron T. Quailes is the son of Lashonda Kane and Kenneth Johnson Sr. He was baptized on December 26, 1999, at the age of 11. On December 5th 2009, at the age of 21 years old, Terron was ordained Minister of Music by God first and then Pastor Terrance L. Murray. Along with being ordained by Pastor Murray, there were several clergy members who declared the Glory of God on his life in different areas,  including Bishop Dane A. Coleman.

Terron has been blessed with many talents and active gifts from God. Between

2002-2013 Minister Quailes attended Seedtime & Harvest Prophetic Church where he served as Minister of Music, Leader of the Mime & Dance Ministry, Youth and Sunday school teacher, the only drummer, Praise and Worship team leader, and Pastor Murray's Personal Armor Bearer of 11yrs. In June of 2013, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Minister Quailes joined Greater New Hope Church & Ministries in Preston, Md, where he currently serves as the Assistant Fine Arts Director and Mime Ministry Leader, under the Pastoral leadership of Bishop Dane A. Coleman.

Terron has also been very active in performance and music and was very blessed to be able to travel to Edinburgh, Scotland August 2010 for the Festival Fringe where his acting group received 3 star reviews for their performance. He has been in several Greater New Hope Church & Ministries & SOZO Performing Arts Ministry productions: He was co-star in a Gospel Stage play Janitor Man written by Elder Treena Ringgold which was performed at the Greater New Hope Church & Ministries December 2010, Watch Night Service 2011  presentation "Once a Church Boy, Always a Church Boy" written by Kevin Bratcher, Watch Night Service 2012 Presentation "Church House Monologues: Stories My Momma Never Told Me", 2013 Production of Gospel stage play Preach the Word, & a 2014 Production of Church House Monologues all written and directed by Award-Winning Playwright, Elder Treena Ringgold.

To name a few performances in musical plays, Minister Quailes has performed in roles of Preacher Oedipus in "The Gospel of Colonus", Utterson in "Jekyll & Hyde", portrayed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in "The Meeting", Mister in "The Color Purple", Curtis Taylor in "Dream Girls",  The voice of Audrey II in"The Little Shop of Horrors",  John in "Miss Saigon", Coalhouse Walker Jr. in "Ragtime" and has also performed songs from"Porgy & Bess", and "The Magic Flute". Terron has supported and performed for the Harriet Tubman Center of Excellence in Hurlock, Maryland, raising money for the after school program. Aditionally, he performed three consecutive years with the Heart & Music Cast to benefit For All Seasons Mental Health Clinic & Rape Crisis Center in Easton,MD.

Besides performances, Minister Terron was 1st place winner of the 2010 MD-DC National Association of Teachers of Singing Student auditions, received 3rd prize at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals, and placed 2nd in Junior Men's Classical Music at the state level. For one of the performances, he traveled to South Carolina.

Minister Terron received his B.A. in Vocal Performance from Salisbury University in May 2012. He is pursuing a career in vocal performance & theatrical production, with the ultimate desire to obtain the experience and income necessary to make a difference in his family and local community. Minister Quailes has made some very key accomplishments, but without God, and allowing God to use him, all of those performances, titles, and talent would not be worth it.

One of Minister Terron's favorite scriptures is Proverbs 19:21 NIV "Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails." This scripture is a daily reminder to Minister Terron, that no matter what opportunities come his way - if they don't line up with God's purpose for his life they will be mere distractions. "I have found at times I had become so consumed in sharing my gift that I neglected to consult God, thus causing me to be missing in action from the place God had purposed me to be. God is so amazing that even when we are M.I.A. He shows us grace and mercy."

An influential person in Minister Terron's life who has inspired him to live out his life in faith is his maternal grandfather, Vance Quailes Sr. "My grandfather is one hardworking and selfless man;  the word "no"  doesn't exist in his vocabulary. As a young kid I would spend lots of time with my grandfather on the weekends. A majority of that time was spent in church or doing something church related. The rest of our time together was spent watching, and at times assisting, my grandfather with projects around his house and/or projects he was working on for others in the community. My grandfather has been a great example of  how to live life daily as a strong man of God; he helped me establish a strong foundation in God at an early age through prayer and God's Word. We started each day with prayer, and reading a verse from our daily bread.

I believe a maverick man is a man who relies on God to validate and affirm him, not society. He is one who lives a life of integrity and discipline while striving for perfection in Christ. A maverick man is an honest man, one who speaks truth in love, ;he is a reflection of Christ.
